Fabrik: The Legend of M Rabinowitz

The JCC and The Little Angel Theatre bring this exclusive week-long run of an award-winning puppet production to London.

Inspired by Nordic and Yiddish folktales, and featuring puppets, masks, sets and music, Fabrik tells the exceptional story of Moritz Rabinowitz, the Norwegian Jew who “built a factory from a button” and dedicated his life to fighting anti-Semitism and the rise of Hitler.

In 1911, Moritz Rabinowitz fled pogroms and persecution in Poland to build a future for himself in Norway. Poor but determined, he eventually built one of the largest clothing empires in the country. Despite wealth and importance, Rabinowitz felt the constant threat of anti-Semitism and threw himself into battling it, avidly writing newspaper columns to express his views on issues in Europe, denouncing prejudice and eventually alerting Norway to the rise of Hitler and the Nazis.

His portentous denunciations were ignored by everyone except the Nazis themselves, who, by the time they invaded in 1940, considered him “the leader of the Jewish resistance in Norway”. In telling Rabinowitz’s story, Fabrik is about the places we call home, the choices we make in our lives, and the impressions those choices leave on history.

Fabrik is an original theatre piece performed, devised and designed by Wakka Wakka Productions Inc., a group of theatre artists whose mission is to push the boundaries of the imagination by creating works that are bold, unique and unpredictable.

This production is suitable for adults and children over 12.
Supported by the Norwegian Embassy.
