JCC The Other Seder

The JCC reprises its Other Seder for a fourth consecutive year, with a new commission from leading puppet theatre company Blind Summit, the rocking Yiddish Twist Orchestra with dj Max Reinhardt, films, visuals by Miki Shaw and hosted by Antifrizz at the gorgeous Bush Hall.

Blind Summit Theatre, in collaboration with the Knish Collective will premiere a new piece of puppetry that inventively illuminates My Father was a Wondering Aramean. Blind Summit Theatre has established itself as a world leader in puppetry for adults. They are particularly known for their collaborations with Anthony Minghella on his acclaimed production of Madame Butterfly at the ENO and the Metropolitan Opera and with Complicite on Shun-kin. Premiering The Paper Aramean, a 20 minute piece of theatre telling the tale of the Wandering Aramean with explanations, midrashic commentary and absurd lost footings through a stream of text and images on individual pieces of paper, presented by performers and set to new music.

Plus the Yiddish Twist Orchestra will set the dance floor on fire with their hard-dancing, Pulp Fiction style 50s and 60s klezmer surf twist, supported by DJ Max Reinhardt, visuals by the JCC’s resident imagician Miki Shaw and hosted by Antifrizz. For a sneak preview, click here.

With Projecting Freedom: Cinematic Interpretations of the Haggadah: The JCC premieres 14 Short videos by New York film makers and video artists working at the cutting edge of their art-form to give new meanings to an ancient text. Bring your own headphones to listen into our film installation.

Food on sale from Saf Restaurant.

Projecting Freedom, supported by The Covenant Foundation, is a project from New York City’s Skirball Center in New York. This project, reflecting the Center’s emphasis on artistic expression in Jewish life and education, marks the JCC’s first collaboration with this dynamic NY-based organisation.
