Jonny Berliner’s Front Room
Following
the success of our first session last season, the JCC Front
Room returns – this time hosted by rising singer songwriter Jonny
Berliner at the Roundhouse.
Jonny
Berliner has
been gigging since 2000 and has notched up many hundreds of performances
across the UK and the world. He released ‘Friend for All
Seasons’,
his debut album in February 06. In 2007 Jonny released ‘Please
Do Not Bend’, a collection of eight songs that range from
quiet folk to big band swing. Jonny has appeared live on BBC2, LBC
and BBC Radio Leeds, and has performed ‘Friend for all
Seasons’ live – to great acclaim – accompanied
by the Royal Academy of Music Session Orchestra and conducted by
Douglas Whyte. He has been the resident Troubadour for the Guardian
Science Podcast, writing topical science-themed songs to order.
Alternative by nature, Gideon Conn’s shows are breath-taking
from start to finish. With a cheeky smile he makes the audience jump for joy,
sigh with delight then leave asking what they have just seen and when can I hear
it again?
He was wowed at major festivals and toured with Dan le Sac vs Scroobius
Pip, 6 Day Riot and Jason Mraz. Their hip hop/indie crossover single
called ‘I
Want You Around’ was well received by radio - playlisted on XFM and
awarded breakfast single of the week on BBC 6 music as well being championed
by Huw Stevens and Rob da Bank on Radio 1. Gideon’s Debut album entitled ‘New
Bop Sounds’ is due for release in March 2010.
“The people of Britain may not know it yet, but Gideon
Conn is one of their national treasures” - Scroobius Pip
Andy McKay is a pioneer of the banjo. Moulding different
styles and genres you would never expect to hear played on a banjo
into a dynamic, all-rounded, all-entertaining experience, Andy’s
only aim is to make a room full of people smile and nod with joy.
And, my goodness, that’s exactly what he does.
