Behind the scenes of a multinational corporation
Global Village is a series of workshops and events
developed by the JCC and Tzedek, and led by people who
work in the field of international development. Come along, get
involved and join the discussion.
What really goes on in multinational corporations? Who made the t-shirt you are wearing? Do multinationals treat people badly or are they bringing development and globalisation to some of the world’s poorest areas? Join Samantha Maher from
Labour Behind the Label; Andy Rubin, Chief Executive
of Pentland Brands, which owns brands such as Speedo and Berghaus
and licenses brands such as Lacoste and Ted Baker; and
Impactt, which helps companies such as Marks & Spencer and New Look improve labour standards. The panel will be chaired by Brian
Pomeroy, chair of Raleigh International and former chair of homeless charity Centrepoint.
A Day in the Life... of a banana
Global Village is a series of workshops and events
developed by the JCC and Tzedek and led by people who work in
the field of international development. Come along, get involved
and join the discussion.
Have you ever wondered how your banana ended up on a supermarket shelf? Who grew it, who picked it and who decided how much we would pay to transport it to the UK?
Join the Fairtrade Foundation, Matthew Sowemimo,
Economic Justice Campaign Manager for Christian Aid and Alec van Gelder from The International Policy Network as they explain and debate some of the issues related to fair trade, trade justice and the impact that buying a banana here in the UK has on the lives of people thousands of miles away. The panel will be chaired by Jason Strelitz, founder of the charity Masambiro, which assists education in Malawi, and policy adviser for Save the Children. |
