WJR's East Africa Food Crisis Appeal

World Jewish Relief Emergency Appeal

Millions of people across the Horn of Africa are facing severe flood shortages after a second successive poor rainy season. The region is experiencing the worst drought for 60 years. If we respond now we can avert even more catastrophic disaster.

World Jewish Relief, the UK’s leading humanitarian aid agency has launched an emergency appeal to help those affected. WJR is proud to work within and beyond the needs of it’s own Jewish community and fulfil the tenet of Tikkun Olam.

Two successive rainy season failures in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and parts of Uganda, compounded by increasing grain prices, fodder shortages and livestock deaths have brought parts of the region to brinks of famine.

  • It is estimated that over 8 million people are in need of urgent assistance
  • Thousands of families are moving to displaced person camps in search of assistance
  • Severe water shortages are adding to the deteriorating health particularly of women and children

Without rapid intervention this disaster could turn in to a larger humanitarian catastrophe. Your donation will help to relieve immediate needs providing:

  • Emergency food and water
  • Temporary shelter
  • Basic healthcare
  • Non food relief items
